Texas Health Outpatient Center Craig Ranch Earns SHAPE Center of
Excellence Designation
Program encourages best practices for preventing first heart attacks
MCKINNEY, TEXAS, April 26, 2011 – SHAPE, The Society for Heart
Attack Prevention and Eradication (
http://www.shapesociety.org
), a nonprofit organization that promotes early detection and
preventive intervention to reduce heart attack risk, today announced
the certification of Texas Health Outpatient Center Craig Ranch in
McKinney, Texas as a SHAPE Center of Excellence. Texas Health
Outpatient Center Craig Ranch is located at 7850 Collin McKinney
Parkway, next to the Cooper Fitness Center.
SHAPE Centers of Excellence adhere to the First SHAPE Guideline for
screening to identify hidden heart attack risk in apparently healthy
men and women. SHAPE recommends two scientifically proven
non-invasive atherosclerosis tests for at-risk men over age 45 and
at-risk women over age 55: either coronary artery calcification
scoring (CACS) by a computed tomography (CT) scan or carotid artery
intima-media thickness (CIMT) scanning by ultrasound. Both tests
have been proven to be more effective than relying solely on
measuring risk factors such as cholesterol to assess an apparently
healthy individual’s heart attack risk.
“Texas Health Outpatient Center Craig Ranch is taking advantage of
advances in preventive cardiology that make it possible to more
accurately assess a seemingly healthy individual’s hidden heart risk
so they can get the preventive treatment they need,” said JoAnne
Zawitoski, chairwoman of the SHAPE Board of Directors. “As a SHAPE
Center of Excellence, patients can be confident that Texas Health
Outpatient Center Craig Ranch is at the forefront of the fight
eradicate heart attacks.”
Texas Health Outpatient Center Craig Ranch and other SHAPE Centers
of Excellence focus on the prevention of a first heart attack –
especially in the vulnerable population, who are those at risk of a
near future heart attack. Texas Health Outpatient Center Craig Ranch
offers advanced diagnostic imaging services, cardiac rehabilitation,
pulmonary therapy and advanced cardiac imaging services.
In addition to Texas Health Outpatient Center Craig Ranch, other
SHAPE Centers of Excellence are located in Arizona, Arkansas,
California, Florida, Missouri, Pennsylvania and Virginia.
Cedars-Sinai’s S. Mark Taper Foundation Imaging Center in Los
Angeles is a SHAPE Model Center of Excellence.
The SHAPE Centers of Excellence Program coincides with SHAPE
Provider Certification. For more information about these
certification programs for your practice or hospital, please contact
