"Jeff , Before you came I had been working to sell the concept of calcium scoring to the general medical staff and had achieved a utilization rate of about five a day. I had used news letters, staff meeting lectures, and community lectures but it did not grow beyond 5.

Then, you came and we did the SHAPE Centers of Excellence certification program and spoke to all the primary care providers including OB-Gyn. We have now grown to 15-20 scores a day. Of course the radiologists do the lung over reads and we have found breast cancers, lung cancers in addition to multiple cases of hi grade cad up to and including SYNTAX scores of above 33. It is essential to convince the primary care providers of the utility of CACS and alleviate their fear of using it to get them on board which is exactly what you did.

There is no question that this program saves lives in patients that do not have a clue they have life threatening illnesses. My providers have laminated SHAPE algorithms on their desks or use the SHAPE app on their I phones for Rx guidance or e-mail me with questions.

As you know, I have long been frustrated that 50% of people present with death or MI as their first symptom of asymptomatic atherosclerosis.
